Statia Janie Wood, 83 years, passed away the morning of October 20, 2021, at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care, after a long illness. She was born on August 6, 1938, in Chesnee, to the late Major Lee Lawter and Lillaree Elizabeth Wilson Lawter. In her working years, she was employed at Pine Street Elementary School in Spartanburg as a custodian and also was a member of Beaumont Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Statia Jane White of Spartanburg, Kemit Ray White, III (Morgan), of Spartanburg, great-grandson; James Aldon White and a brother, Melvin Lawter (Susan).

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 22, 2021, from 11:00 - 11:45 am in the Chapel of Harris-Nadeau Mortuary. Funeral services will follow visitation at 12:00 pm with pastor John Lee of Beaumont Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will be at Springhill Memorial Gardens.
