Richard Jackson

June 18, 1959 — December 14, 2023

Chesnee, SC

Richard “Ricky” D. Jackson, 64, of Chesnee, SC won his battle against Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease on Thursday, December 14 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House.

Ricky was born in Spartanburg, SC and moved to Sanford, Florida as a young child.  After high school, he returned to Spartanburg where he began a long career in the textile industry.  He began at John D. Hollingsworth.  He went on to work at Graf Metallic of America, Inc.  He ended his career at Tex-Mach, Inc., where he will be remembered for asking, “You got $5?” as he collected, but never won, for the weekly lottery pool.

Ricky will be remembered for his kindness, gentle spirit, quick wit, willingness to help, his cricket sound and the mischievous twinkle in his eye.

Ricky enjoyed visiting his family in Florida and Georgia.  He loved talking textiles with his buddies.  He loved making memories with life-long friends, John and Wanda Gordon. He loved to travel and was always ready for his next road trip. Ricky loved Southern Rock, especially Lynard Skynyrd.

Ricky was a loving, wonderful and supportive husband to his wife and best friend, Susan.  They loved to travel, shop, attend concerts and watch Gamecock football together. Ricky loved all his nieces and nephews, but was particularly close to Marley DeFreitas and Santana Greene.  Ricky and Susan could often be found at his nieces’ sporting events. Ricky always kept a $100 dollar bill in his wallet for every homerun Marley hit (thankfully she only hit one).  He also kept a roll of quarters in his pocket so Santana could play “Fat Albert” at the fair every year.

Ricky was the youngest son of the late Earl and Lucy Jackson. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his; brother, Dennis Jackson (Lib) of Braselton, Georgia; sister, Dianne Maheu of Osteen, Florida; sister-in law, Leigh Ann Lawter (Shane) of Boiling Springs, SC; his wife’s parents, Olin and Shelia Haynes of Spartanburg; numerous nephews, nieces and their children.

He was predeceased by his brothers Daryl Jackson of Spartanburg, SC and David Jackson of Lake Mary, Florida.

Ricky and Susan were blessed to have many people to love and support them along their journey, especially Leigh Ann and Shane Lawter. Their Spartanburg Regional Hospice Team (Lisa, Gabby, Lara, Rena and Dr. Pobanz) and the staff at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House were wonderful and took outstanding care of Ricky.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Spartanburg Humane Society, the first home of his former much loved pets Elvis, Presley, Grace and Memphis will be greatly appreciated.

As Ricky requested, there will be no services.

“Bye-bye baby, it’s been a sweet love”
