Rev. Phillip Edward Raines, Sr., 67 years, husband of Bertha Jean Blanton Raines, passed away Monday, April 19, 2021 at Spartanburg Medical Center.

He was born on February 7, 1954 in Spartanburg County to the late Lawrence and Peggy Yvonne Hall Raines. He was educated locally and attended Casey Creek Bible College. He was the pastor of Una First Baptist Church for the past 21 years. Phillip was known as a helper, a doer and asked for nothing in return. He loved singing and for many years had been involved in various gospel singing groups. He was affectionately known by her grandchildren; who he adored, as “Poppy”.

Survivors include his wife and best friend of 39 years, Bertha of Spartanburg, son’s; Phillip E. Raines Jr. and Jeffery Raines both of Spartanburg, daughter and son-in-law; Tracy Raines Cooper (Nicholas) of Spartanburg, brother; Steve Rains of Cowpens, sisters, Karen Raines Rhodes and Carol Morgan both of Roebuck and 10 grandchildren. Sadly, Phillips’s brother, Charles passed away the same day and afternoon at Regional Hospice Home.

A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021, 5:00 pm, at Una First Baptist Church, 350 New Cut Road, Spartanburg, SC, 20301.
