Phyllis Steadman, 79, of Chesnee, passed away Tuesday, August 5th at Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg after a long struggle with multiple illnesses.
She will be remembered as a dedicated educator and mentor for more than 40 years. She was known as compassionate and generous with many people and charitable agencies. She was a woman of deep faith and lived according to her beliefs and was a member of First Baptist Mayo.
She was the daughter of the late Stanley Culbreth and Ann Penny Culbreth of Fayetteville, NC. She was also preceded in death by her mother-in-law Pearl Steadman and sister-in-law Rena Lawter. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jerry, son David, daughter-in-law Lynley, grandchildren Wil, Spencer and Claire, her beloved and loyal fur baby, Little Girl, niece Stephanie Bagwell, husband Jason, and children Luke and Jonah, nephew Brian Lawter, wife Ashley, and children Matthew and Noah, her brother Keith of Mount Pleasant, SC and sister Karen Odom of Fayetteville, NC.
She attended Appalachian State University, graduated from Winthrop University, earned her Masters degree from Converse University, and advanced graduate studies from USC Upstate. She took great pride in being a loving “Grana” to her three grandchildren.
