Nathaniel Ruff

Nathaniel Ruff Chesnee, SC. Edward Nathaniel Lee Ruff, 48, of Fairfield Road passed away Monday, April 22, 2019 at his home. Born May 20, 1970 in Gastonia, NC., he was a son of Chester Lee Ruff of Blacksburg and the late Charlotte Patricia Anderson Ruff of Chesnee. His name means "a gift from God". Nathaniel Ruff finished the work God needed him to do. He came into the world as a complete surprise and his exit is a shock. He was a devoted, loving, generous Daddy to Noah, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He taught himself the harmonica and guitar. He sang in church, he loved to hunt, fish, grow a garden and cook and was good at it all. He might've been less than 5 lbs. when he entered this world, but he's leaving an enormous empty place behind. He definitely lived up to his name. Surviving in addition to his father is his son, Noah Ruff of Virginia; sister, Angelique R. Smith and husband Scott of Camden; brother, Daniel Ruff and wife Amy of Inman and several, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Cooley Springs Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Michael Bragg and David C. Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be at the home of Kevin Anderson, 340 Anderson Road, Chesnee, SC. It's difficult to put into words how you can become such close friends with someone you have never "met," however that's exactly what happened with me and Nate. There is an app called Smule where you can sing with others or by yourself or with a group of others. Last Summer, Nate sang with me and his voice just blew me away, and so we sang. Again and again. And we chatted. And thus became friends. We talked every day without fail. There is a group of us who are just devastated at the loss of such a good person. I will find comfort in the hundreds of songs, both audio and video, that he left behind and the numerous conversations we had. He has to be one of the wittiest people I ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was funny and he was caring and oh how he loved his family. I can only imagine how wonderful the reunion with his mother was. Nate, I miss you already. I will miss your voice, but mostly I'm going to miss the heart and soul you put into everything you did. One thing I want to leave on here. His friend Dennis sent him a picture of a rainbow over his house. He was so excited to share that. I said "Nate! You're about to get a blessing!" He said, "Good! I've got the perfect spot cleared out for it then." We didn't know at the time how great of a blessing he was about to receive. God has certainly welcomed him with open arms.

I'm met Nathaniel in high school and we quickly became friends. He always made me laugh and I always enjoyed talkin and spending time with him. He is a huge part of my high school memories. So grateful that I got to see him again at our 30th high school reunion. Prayers for his family. Until we meet again my friend!

Only met Nate one time . He was such a good natured guy. His son Noah is my second cousin. I pray for the family at this time and GOD has him now. Gone too soon.

Nathaniel was my cousin, but he was also my friend. I didn't see him often, but when I did, it was like I had just seen him yesterday. He will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Nathaniel was a true friend all through school and although I seldom saw him since, when I did it was like no time had passed. We had some great times and he will truly be missed. My sincerest condolences to Daniel, Angelique, and the entire family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

We fished, played football, raced VW vans, road bikes, stayed out, too late, had a few and laughed a lot. Peace be with your family, we'll do all again when it's my time. Highly missed and appreciated. Go fishing brother.
