Larry Reich
Chesnee, SC.
Larry Reich, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Chesnee, SC on Sunday, June 1, 2025. Larry was one of a kind and his direct communication never left you wondering where you stood with him. Larry was an entertainer from a young age playing bass guitar in a number of bands since high school, acting in local theater, singing and playing bass guitar in church and even doing some stand up comedy along the way. Larry spent many hours delivering Meals on Wheels in Cherokee County over the past several years. If you knew Larry, you knew that he never met a stranger. Larry supported the Tarheels and Red Sox every day of his life and had treasured memories of traveling to different baseball stadiums around the country and his personal note from Dean Smith.
Larry was born on September 13, 1949 in Greensboro, NC. Larry grew up in North Carolina and graduated from Sumner High School in 1967. Larry was the third of four children in his family and loved being the baby boy in the family. Larry shared many great stories of his childhood, one of the best being him being chased around the yard by the family goose, Jake. Larry moved to Spartanburg in 1987.
Larry met and married the love of his life, Judy and they would have celebrated their 22nd anniversary on June 8th. Larry and Judy not only shared a love, they shared a birthday which tickled Larry to no end. Larry and Judy created a tradition of taking vacations to celebrate their birthdays and managed to visit 49 of the 50 states. The family hopes to visit Alaska in memory of Larry to honor his desire to visit all 50 states.
Larry started working in construction right out of high school and worked his way up the ranks ending his career in construction as a Project Estimator. Larry worked for Wendy’s, Ryan’s Steakhouse and Bi-Lo, in addition to several construction companies in the Greensboro area. After many years in construction, Larry embraced being an entrepreneur and started several businesses of his own including Slots of Fun in Spartanburg and his own snack tray business. The “CANDY ROOM” in Larry’s house was rivaled only by Willy Wonka and provided his grandkids with endless bragging rights.
His favorite of all the things he built was his family. Larry had two children, Tracey (David) Chugg of Monroe, Wisconsin and Brian (Allison) Reich of Inman along with a step-son Ricky Blackwell of Chesnee. Larry has six grandchildren, Hailey(Justin), Michael, Hannah(Collin), Joshua, Dylan and Landon and four great grandchildren, Tristen, Maya, Ashton and Ezra. Larry was close with his sisters, Mary Rice, Jean(Gary) Regan and Diane Logan and with Judy’s family as well. Larry leaves his best feline friend Sam behind to keep an eye on Judy.
Larry will be deeply missed by his family and friends here, but he will be reunited in Heaven with his parents, his older brother Tommy, his younger sister Dee and his step-son Jason. A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Larry’s name to Cherokee County Meals on Wheels. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Hospice nurses and staff at Interim Health Care and to Larry and Judy’s church family at Gaffney Free Will Baptist.
